Der Kinofilm "X-Files : I Want to Believe", welcher dieses Jahr im Kino anlief, war nicht gerade von Erfolg gekrönt. Viele behaupten, dass dies an dem niedrig angesetzten Budget gelegen habe. In einem Interview mit IESB äußerte sich Tom Rothman, Vorsitzender von Fox, nun zu den Anschuldigen und stritt dies ab: "[...] it wasn't a matter of the money, that was the film that Chris wanted to do. He was determined to do a stand alone film, a film that wasn't dependent upon the mythology. His interest in making the movie, was in the characters and in their relationship, not the mythology."

Allen Akte X Fans, die auf einen weiteren Kinofilm zur Kultserie warten, gab Rothman neue Hoffnung: "It's really up to Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson."
